ASI History
- 1904
Developed out of Madison College, a self-supporting institution (in Tennessee) by Magan & Sutherland under direction of Ellen White.
- 1945
At GC Fall Council, action taken to form Association of Self-Supporting
Institutions (ASI)
At ASI’s first organizational meeting frequent reference was made to Ellen White’s statement…
- The work of God in this earth can never be finished until the men and women comprising our church membership rally to the work and unite their efforts with those of ministers and church officers” (9T 117)
Ellen White Has this to day:-
“When men of business, farmers, mechanics, lawyers etc., become members of the Church, they become servants of Christ, and although their talents may be entirely different, their responsibility to advance the cause of God by personal effort, and with their means, is no less than that which rests upon the minister” (4T 469)

oASI launched with 25 lay organizations
- 1979: Name Change
oThe organization changed its name to
Adventist-laymen’s Services & Industries to
reflect its increasingly diverse membership
ASI SAU LAUNCH
2008 :General Conference ASI Model adopted by Southern Africa Union Conference
